For Educators

Partner with the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center
Our education department supports educators in increasing student achievement by connecting the historical facts of the Underground Railroad and the struggle from slavery to freedom to modern day slavery.

Contact us to meet and discuss how we can support your efforts in the classroom. Research has proven that children who visited a museum at young ages achieve higher scores in reading, math, and science. In addition, students are able to connect historical events to current day life.

Our Museum

In the Mid-19th Century, when the United States was divided between free and slave states, conductors on the Underground Railroad aided freedom seekers on their journey north, offering direction, relative safety and needed rest. The Ohio River Valley was an active site along this passage to freedom.

Through permanent and traveling exhibits, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center shares the stories of freedom’s heroes, from the era of the Underground Railroad to contemporary times, challenging and inspiring us all.
