As a recording artist for King, Brother Ely recorded some of the most powerful and emotional Gospel songs ever made, influencing Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. He spent nearly thirty years as a minister in the Appalachian heartland, and, eventually, in Newport, Kentucky. Ely's great nephew, Dr. Macel Ely II, will speak at the Main Library downtown about Ely's life and discuss his book based on over 1,000 personal interviews he conducted.
