Join historians and experts in the Harriet Tubman Theater as we view Episode 2 of this 5-part documentary that will air on PBS. Episode 2: A Beacon of Hope examines the plight of runaway slaves escaping from the South, and also tells the story of Cincinnati kid John Cockerill, who is separated from his father in the Battle of Shiloh, but demonstrates bravery in battles and goes on to be managing editor of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Event also includes historian Carl Westmoreland's look at Cincinnati's important role in the Civil War, vocalist Devell Barnes performing spirituals from the Underground Railroad era, and a panel discussion with historians and the filmmaker.
