In collaboration with Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, join us for a sneak peak of Safe House. This brief excerpt of the play will be followed by a panel discussion with the playwright, director and local leaders from the business community. This discussion will not only address the socio-economic themes within the play, but the contemporary challenges facing African American businesses and entrepreneurs today.
Oct. 18-Nov. 15, 2014
This fall Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park will present the world premiere production of Keith Josef Adkins’ Safe House. Safe Housetells the story of the Pedigrews, a free family of color in 1843 Kentucky. While one brother strives to open a shoe business and create a successful life for his family, the other risks it all to help slaves escape. This moving and surprising play was loosely inspired by the playwright’s ancestors and tells one family’s fascinating story within the history of our region’s role in the Underground Railroad.
