The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center has announced the launch of its new literacy initiative, Books to Life! The interactive program is designed to assist educators with increasing student achievement.
Books to Life presents historical fiction and non-fiction books brought to life through dramatic presentations by Freedom Center historical interpreters. Readings invite student participation and are designed for grades PrK-3rd. Fourth graders and beyond are welcome to participate—this unique program has something for everyone!
In addition to active student engagement, state education standards are embedded in the program. As your students listen and engage in dramatic readings of books written by renowned authors, students will learn the stories of freedom’s heroes and make modern day connections with the struggles of those who fought for freedom, justice and equality.
$5.00 admission for Books to Life includes:
· Dramatic readings
· Hands-on activities
· A guided tour of 2-3 Freedom Center exhibits.
