Explore the theme of FREEDOM as the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and community commemorate the 150th anniversary of the 13th Amendment and celebrate the legacy of the late Dr. Maya Angelou. Leaders from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and National Underground Railroad Freedom Center will discuss freedom through the lens of classical music— Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 From the New World as well as newly commissioned pieces featuring the poetry of Dr. Maya Angelou. Listen to recorded musical excerpts, hear the poetry of Dr. Maya Angelou that will be featured in a newly commissioned orchestral work, and enjoy a Q&A with the speakers. Light refreshments to follow.
