Slaves were held on this continent for nearly 250 years before they were emancipated and this "apology" comes over 140 years after the emancipation. I think it is shameful that The United States Government dragged its heels for so long in issuing this apology. While I applaude the work of Congress in issuing this apology, I think it is much too little and extremely too late to be appreciated by those who it actually addresses.
