Pam, I do not yet have an answer to your question about Martha’s ethnicity but I did find some interesting information on familysearch.org. This web site is free to use so you can check this out for yourself. I found Martha’s death certificate on the family search beta site. It shows that her father was John R Johnson and her mother was Julia Queen. On the 1880 census (also on family search.org) I found an Orpheus Queen with Martha Queen as an older sister. I suspect there may have been a second marriage but have not found it. What do you think?

Ivy’s mother is Martha Ellen Johnson
Benson and father is David Benson. Martha’s mother was Julia Toland Johnson and her father was John Johnson. I’ve found different information and different spellings of the Johnson name, such as; Johnsten. I believe Martha had brothers, Martin Oliver Johson, Smauel M. Johnson and Orpheus Allen Johnson.

Pam, I found Walter and Iva Spriggs in Jackson County, Ohio.
I also found a Martha Johnson living in Brown County, Ohio who is the right age to be Iva’s mother. Do you know Martha’s parents names? Or do you know any of her brothers or sisters. With that ifo we can verify her.

I don’t know anything about my dad’s family and I am trying to trace my family history to find out if my daughter is entitled to any Indian Rights to help fund her education. Is there anyone out there that can tell me where to find out where I come from and how to find out my background. I have my dad’s death certificate which contains his parents names but that is all that I know. My dad died when I was eighteen and he never allowed me to meet his family.
