Faith to Freedom Daily: James A.M.E. Church, Ithaca, New York
One of the oldest AME churches in the country, St. James may also be the oldest church in Ithaca. The church sheltered runaway slaves in the Ithaca area, a vital transfer point for freedom seekers on their way to Canada.
Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass were among the famous visitors to the church.
