Founded in 1842 by Father Wallace Shelton. Located in a small house near the Ohio River on Third and Race streets, Zion was known as the “headquarters for the UGRR” because slaves were commonly concealed in its basement. Leading Abolitionists William Casey and John Hatfield were both members of Zion Baptist Church”
