Second Colored Baptist Church (Central Baptist), St. Louis, Missouri
The Rev. John Richard Anderson organized Second Colored Baptist Church (fourth oldest black church in St. Louis) in 1846. The church’s name was changed to Central Baptist Church. It was a key Underground Railroad Station and emphasized training young clergy and laymen for local and international mission work. The Missouri Equal Rights League formed in 1865 at this church, located at 2843 Washington Ave in St. Louis.
