Is the teaching of Black History or a Black History Month still relevant? Many people have questioned the value of Black History and how it relates to social conditioning and its impact on social change. The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center will be holding a Debate & Discussion regarding the value and impact of Black History. Dr. Francille Rusan Wilson, Associate professor of American Studies & Ethnicity and History at the University of Southern California will present a visual biography focusing on less well-known but crucial aspects of Carter G. Woodson’s early life. Dr. Prince Brown, retired Professor of Sociology and African American Studies at Northern Kentucky University will also be on the panel to offer an intellectual perspective on the social implication of Black History.
Funding for this program was made possible in part by PNC as well as the U.S. Department of Education Underground Railroad Educational and Cultural Program.
